If Christian Slater stopping by the booth earlier this season wasn’t enough, did you catch Suzy Kolber’s sideline interviews with the Williams sisters during the Jets/Dolphins wet fest Monday night? She was asking them football questions, tinged with a little tennis. How can a football fan continue to take this broadcast seriously. What’s next? Britney Spears on the telestrator?

Colt Brennan made a bid for the Heisman front runner position in 2007 with a five-touchdown, 560-yard performance against ASU in the Hawaii Bowl over the weekend. Surely, he might have different numbers on the mainland, but the kid can throw. He may declare for the draft rather than play another year for the Rainbows although leaving a tropical island, a potential Heisman and probably a parade of pretty Wahines infatuated with him is not an easy call.
What’s funny about this story is that Brennan, who set an NCAA touchdown pass record this season, came to Hawaii as a walk-on after he had a grand total of one offer (Utah) east of Honolulu and west of LA. It was his third postsecondary stop behind a center. How can a Southern California guy with this kind of talent go unnoticed and unsigned?
Makes me wonder why we throw the word genius around during coach discussions.

I’m cruising at 4-2 in my bowl pool, Utah and Oregon doing me wrong. I’m on the Huskers so my rooting emotions match my investments on New Year’s Day. I have to say that having asked plenty of fans — many of whom are in bowl pools — most have Auburn. No science to it but the boys in Las Vegas are not the only ones to have us as decided underdogs.

I like the Tiger pick for Male Athlete of the Year by AP. Skills, attitude, focus, and competitive fire rarely come in such generous amounts inside the same package.
