With apologies to my friend Stu Popisil of the World-Herald, here are the Nebraska School Activities Association rankings of the state’s basketball teams — points they have earned playing the game. Stu has his own rankings, and I always like his insights as well. The NSAA determines wild cards using these points. I like to look at the comparable strengths and then see how district and state games go. (All teams points can be found at www.nsaahome.org.)

I also like to look between classes. For example, before Saturday night when C-2 Archbishop Bergan beat GICC, both were ranked second in their classes. But the computers didn’t throw the Crusaders under the bus. As a matter of fact, the kids in royal blue and white earned 39 points in the 57-46 loss. That’s only two points less than they earned in wins over 1-12 Aquinas and 3-11 Scotus, and one point more than they earned in a 52-51 loss to Class B Grand Island Northwest.

With conference tournament in full swing and districts looming, Mondays are a good day to see where the weekend has taken us in Nebraska high school hoops.

I’ve listed the top eight in each class and some area teams on the bubble.
