Now that Boise St. has slapped the BCS gods upside the head, perhaps its time to reconsider Notre Dame’s easier-than-the-average-D1’s route to a BCS game. Yes, the Irish have a huge following. Yes, they are the signature team in NCAA football. Yes, they have their own network. Yes, Charlie Weiss has been known to wear a Bill Belichick hoodie and has three Super Bowl rings. But let’s face it: The Irish have lost nine straight bowls. Granted, they had a tough draw, a very good LSU team in a home game with a great QB and a fast and nasty defense. Still, the Irish need to step up if they want to continue to reap the financial benefits of the BCS that have been unavailable to some very good football teams.

Nick Saban is becoming the Larry Brown of college football. And his timing could not have been worse for his old team in Baton Rouge. While the nation should have been paying attention to the fortunes of the LSU Tigers and the Sugar Bowl returning to New Orleans, it split its time with Saban’s Tuscaloosa Touch Down (two words).

Maybe he should start his own airlines, “Fly Saban Grand Entrance Air, designed to make a statement and get you there all in the same flight.” Saban left Michigan State and flew to LSU in a dramatic change of fortune. He did the same thing when he left LSU for the Dolphins who flew him directly to the practice field. Now he lands in Alabama who gave Saban 32 million reasons to be on the plane. This, after he emphatically denied he was leaving Miami. But then that doesn’t mean much, the Roy Williams Effect I call it. I just wish he would have waited to let some of the kids he recruited enjoy their day under the Dome without distraction.

You hit the nail on the head... Saban should have waited until today to make the announcement.
